Account deletion
Account deletion removes sign-in access, deletes stored scientific file contents, and anonymizes retained operational records.
Deleting an account is permanent. Use this page to understand what ProteinIQ checks before deletion and what data changes when deletion completes.
Basic concepts
Account identity
Your account identity is the sign-in record connected to your ProteinIQ user. Account deletion removes the Clerk sign-in identity and anonymizes the retained local user record.
After deletion, the same email address cannot be used to create a new ProteinIQ account.
Owned workspaces
Owned workspaces are checked before account deletion. A shared workspace you own can block deletion when it has other members, because ownership and access must be resolved first.
Personal workspaces are handled as part of account deletion. Non-personal workspaces can also be deleted from Settings > Workspace when workspace deletion rules allow it.
Billing blockers
ProteinIQ checks owned workspaces for active billing, unpaid billing states, outstanding invoices, and billing verification errors before allowing account deletion.
Deletion flow
Account deletion starts from Settings > Account.
- Open Settings > Account
- Click Delete account
- Type the email address for your account
- Confirm deletion
The typed email address must match the account email. If it does not match, ProteinIQ blocks the deletion request.
Blocking conditions
ProteinIQ blocks account deletion when deletion would leave unresolved workspace or billing state.
- Owned shared workspace: Transfer ownership or remove other members from an owned shared workspace before deleting the account
- Active billing: Resolve active, past-due, unpaid, or incomplete subscriptions for owned workspaces before deleting the account
- Outstanding payment: Pay outstanding invoices for owned workspaces before deleting the account
- Billing check unavailable: Retry later or contact support when ProteinIQ cannot verify billing status
Resolve billing from Settings > Billing and resolve workspace membership from Settings > Members before retrying deletion.
Data changes
When deletion completes, ProteinIQ deletes stored scientific file contents from active storage and removes direct identifiers from retained operational records.
Deletion affects:
- Sign-in identity: The Clerk user is deleted
- User profile: The local user record is anonymized and marked deleted
- Files and job data: Stored file blobs, job inputs, job outputs, workflow result blobs, and uploaded file blobs are removed from active storage
- Owned workspace data: Owned workspace records are anonymized and marked deleted as part of the account deletion scope
- Operational history: Billing, audit, abuse-prevention, and aggregate usage records can remain without direct account identifiers
Workspace deletion
Workspace deletion is separate from account deletion. A workspace owner can delete an eligible non-personal workspace from Settings > Workspace by typing the exact workspace name into the confirmation field.
Workspace deletion is blocked for personal workspaces and for workspaces with an active subscription. Cancel billing before deleting a subscribed workspace.
